hi,

could you please help me with answering on this question. i am confused, because one sources tells different than other.
thanks in advance.

---------------------------------
Tape streaming is not happening while performing RMAN tape backup. On investigation, you find that it is not because of the incremental backup or the empty file backup and that RMAN is sending data blocks to the tape drive fast enough.
What could be a solution to make tape streaming happen during the backup?

A.
Configure backup optimization

B.
Configure the channel to increase MAXOPENFILES

C.
Configure the channel to increase the capacity with the RATE parameter

D.
Configure the channel to adjust the tape buffer size with the BLKSIZE option

i read somewhere, that if we have problem with tape streaming we should increase level of multiplexing and definition of multiplexing says:

-----------------------
RMAN multiplexing is the number of files in a backup read simultaneously and then written to the same backup piece. The degree of multiplexing depends on the FILESPERSET parameter of the BACKUP command as well as the MAXOPENFILES parameter of the CONFIGURE CHANNEL or ALLOCATE CHANNEL commands.
-----------------------

so my answer is B (MaxOpenFiles)

but i found many sites where they answered D or C. im confused.

What I meant is ALWAYS post a link or a clear reference (book title, author, chapter, page) of what you quote or refer otherwise its value is NULL.

Michel

I thought that RATE was deprecated in 11g, you are meant to use the DURATION...MINIMIZE LOAD | TIME clause instead.
