Hi all,

I created catalog and registered with database.My question is do i always need to connect to catalog after connecting to rman.

Dear michel,

If you want to take backup how you will take.
If don't want store the backup information in catalog what is the use catalog database.

It is not essential. If it were, a problem with the catalog would make backup or recovery operations impossible. But you should certainly conenct to the catalog if you can in order to keep the catalog repository up to day. You must connect at leat as frequently as your controlfile_record_keep_time to be sure of not losing information.

thank u for the answers but when i connect to database wit out catalog by rman does it stores in control file right.If i connect rman to catalog then info will be stored in catalog repository and even in control file?
