Hello Everyone,
Can anyone please tell me the difference between incremental backup and archive log backups? Doesn't both backs up only modified data.If i take full backup once a week and daily archive log backups does it work? or do i need to take incremental backup daily?
Please do reply.
Thanks!!!

Kamran, many DBAs (including me) disagree you on this. Shutting down a database is seriously bad for performance. It takes time for the buffer cache and the shared pool to stabilize with contents that is suitable for the workload. Furthermore, the optimizer has self-learning capabilities (think of cardinality feedback, adaptive cursor sharing) that take time.
You lose all this with every restart.
