Thanx 4 ur time,
I have Install oracle 8i enterprise edition on window nt.& created new database.
I want to take a database backup with Rman.
can u tell me what I have to do(step by step) to run rman.

you have to some additional setup.
depending on your need you
can use a RMAN catalog database 
or
use a control file backup with rman.
STEP by STEP procedures are given in the backup manual in oracle docs. Please go through them
